As mentioned previously, the new apron will be made up of 3 layers of "octagons" with the middle layer rotated 45 degrees relative to the top and bottom layers. Here is some of that stock being mitered on the table saw. It's really nice quartersawn white cedar.

And here is that three-way joint, fit and ready for shaping of the parts before assembly.
Curly Maple and Rosewood, a Handsome Couple
The rosewood edging has been attached and cleaned up with a block plane and scrapers. The combination of rosewood and curly maple is really sharp.
Snap, Crackle and Pop
Almost ready to press the top veneer. The bottom edges have been beveled and the bottom veneer has been pressed. A bit of oil makes this curl snap, crackle and pop.
Blue Tape, Round and Round
All of the edge veneers are applied. This step made possible with the support of blue tape.
