The morning sun on the table top. The angle of the light makes the curl in the maple just explode. That is raw maple, no finish. Just hand planed.
Curly Maple and Rosewood, a Handsome Couple
The rosewood edging has been attached and cleaned up with a block plane and scrapers. The combination of rosewood and curly maple is really sharp.
Snap, Crackle and Pop
Almost ready to press the top veneer. The bottom edges have been beveled and the bottom veneer has been pressed. A bit of oil makes this curl snap, crackle and pop.
Blue Tape, Round and Round
All of the edge veneers are applied. This step made possible with the support of blue tape.
Dressing Up an Edge with Veneer
Here I'm applying the small veneers to the table edge. It's kind of slow going, but requires really precise fitting of all 18 pieces of edge veneer. Just the kind of thing I enjoy.
