As part of the design process, I made a mock-up of the sideboard, primarily out of MDF. The front, left leg is a full prototype, made out of Alaskan yellow cedar. The other 3 legs are just MDF, basically 2d representations of the legs. Besides making the one prototype leg (a design process in itself), the mock-up didn't take long to build and is extremely useful in visualizing the finished piece.
Up Next: A Sideboard
It's a design day for me, working on the next piece. Some details are still being worked out, but the piece is a sideboard. Anything can change at this point, but current thinking is a curly maple case on top of a walnut base.
The Completed Repair
And here is the completed repair. All the new parts that I added are cherry, which looks a little light here but will darken with finish and exposure to light.

Last Step of the Repair
With the gussets installed, I cut and fit the fill-in pieces that make up the remaining portion of the damaged rocker. Lots of handwork to get these fit.
Installing the Gusset
Here is the gusset, epoxied in place. The blue tape protects the existing finish from epoxy squeeze-out.
