Three little drawer fronts, veneered up and ready for what's next. The veneer on the top edges is continuous with the veneers on the faces, like the veneer was wrapped around the edge.
Veneering The Drawer Fronts
Time to start thinking about drawers. I'm veneering the faces of the drawers with the same curly, quartersawn veneer used on the case. I'm also veneering the top edges of the drawers (as seen here) with the same maple. I guess I prefer not to see the two species on the top edge of the drawer front (maple veneer over cherry front). Yes, they will be visible on the sides and bottom, but I'm okay with that.
Close Up
Last post on the tabs. A close up showing that the top of the tabs are flush (or a hair below) the top of the recess. The letter "H" is a mark that tells me where each tab goes.
Brass Tabs Installed
Here are the tabs, installed in the base. They are all let in so the case can sit flush in the recess in the base. The bright brass will not be seen once the case is in place.
Patinated Brass
And then, because I can't seem to leave things alone, I decided that the bright brass, while sexy and elegant, might look better with a patina. I had some patinating solution from when I did the copper gutters on my studio. So now the visible surfaces and screw heads (right) have this really sweet patina. The unexposed faces of the tabs and hidden screws are bright brass (left).
