Quarter & Rift, A Pair of Side Tables
This pair of Shaker-ish cherry side tables was conceived for a Fine Woodworking magazine article.
Rift, the quiet one, was completed for that article. Quarter, the wild child, was made from extra parts that were used during photography for the article.
Even though these two tables started from identical parts, I decided that the original, Rift, was just a bit too understated, too quiet. So I tricked out Quarter with East Indian rosewood inlay and edging. I also steam bent its legs to give it a bit more stance and attitude.
The result is an interesting study in the power of fine detailing to transform furniture.
