En Pointe, An Elegant Study In Contrasts
The sideboard is finished. I'm calling it En Pointe. The materials used are curly maple, ebonized walnut, rosewood. The interior drawer parts utilize quartersawn cherry and western red cedar.
Attaching Wedged Drawer Pulls
To attach the wedged drawer pulls, I use this setup to hold the pull against the drawer front while the wedge is driven from the inside of the drawer. The blue tape on the inside of the drawer makes for easy cleanup of glue squeeze out. After giving the glue a chance to cure, I cut the wedges off and clean up the cuts with a sharp chisel. I leave the ends of the tenons proud of the inside drawer face. Not too much, just enough to say "hey, look here, there's something kind of interesting here."
A Gem Of A Pull
Sorry, another picture of pulls. Just couldn't resist, the lighting is pretty interesting and highlights all the facets of these "gems".
Wedged Drawer Pulls
On the topic of drawers, pulls are pretty important. I like to fasten my pulls with wedges. I make the wedges from whatever thin stock I have on hand. In this case, some veneer left over from the case. I shape the wedges with a block plane, held stationary in one hand and pull/push the wedge over the block plane, like its a tiny jointer.
