Sleep Tight, Wake Bright, A dazzling bed and headboard

This queen-sized bed with headboard was the last piece of furniture I built in my Pittsburgh studio, before moving back to the beautiful Upper Valley of New Hampshire in September 2022. It was finished in a nearly empty space as most of my studio contents (tools, machines, materials, etc.) had been moved into storage, awaiting the future.

When it came time to photograph the completed bed, I found that trying to do so in my studio with my photography backdrop and lighting just wasn’t working. The bed was a bit too large for the backdrop, and I couldn’t get the lighting to highlight the figured material. So I moved the bed into our yard on an overcast Saturday. The photographs turned out pretty well, I think. And they also serve as a reminder of our wonderful yard in Pittsburgh, especially the two silver maple trees behind my studio.

Made of figured cherry, with Indian ebony and dyed oak contrasts.
